AERLINTHE JOURNAL CONTENTS:
Buffing
Aaaah yes, buffing... this is what mages spend almost one third of their lives doing. So, how exactly should you buff on Aerlinthe? Well, your buffing will depend on how secure you want to be, what kind of armor you wear, and what you are planning to fight. Here's the way I buff for fighting Banderlings, while wearing a Hoary Mattekar Robe.
- Throw on my Willpower V and Focus V jewelry. Also hold my Dark Heart, because it provides Mana Renewal Self V, +10 Mana, and +10 Stamina.
- Cast the following spells on myself: Creature Mastery Self V, Mana Conversion Mastery Self VI, Item Mastery Self VI, Life Mastery Self VI, Revitalize Self VI. Lie down, regain full stamina, perform Stamina-to-Mana Self V.
- Buff my Hoary Mattekar Robe with Impenetrability VI and Flame Bane VI. Buff my gauntlets with Impenetrability VI, Flame Bane VI, and Frost Bane VI. Buff my Virindi Mask with Impenetrability VI and Flame Bane VI. Keep in mind - if you wear something other than a Hoary Mattekar Robe, you MUST buff your armor with the highest possible Impenetrability, Flame, and Frost Banes - Banderlings hit hard, so your elemental protections are very important!
- Either perform Revitalize Self V / Stamina-to-Mana Self V or regain full stamina and then use Stamina-to-Mana Self V.
- Buff myself with Armor Self VI, Bludgeoning Protect. Self VI (just in case some Malus Shreth decide to pound on me.. also, sometimes Banderlings go into UA mode and use Bludgeoning), Lightning Protect. Self VI (you never know when an Altered Drudge will spawn next to you!), Fire Protect. Selv VI, and Cold Protect. Self VI. I do not bother with Acid, because Wasteland Rats are quite rare.
- Regain my mana again using the tricks two steps above.
- Cast the following spells on myself: Creature Mastery Self VI (so I can Magic Yield VI easier), Life Mastery Self VI (drain power!), War Mastery Self VI (duh), and Mana Conversion Mastery Self VI. If you noticed, I recast some spells, even though they did not run out yet. This is because I do not want them running out in a middle of a fight before my Item spells die.
The buff sequence above actually does not take as long as it looks. Right now I have 325 mana, and 225 stamina, and this sequence takes approximately 3 minutes.. Don't snicker, you high level Archmages, I am only 49 still =). So, this buff sequence works very well for me when I fight Banderlings. When I see that my Item spells are starting to go ("The spell Impenetrability VI on the Hoary Mattekar Robe has expired."), I finish my fight as soon as possible, run off to a safe spot, and repeat the buff sequence.
Safe spot, you ask? Yup. The water is safe. The water is your friend. Trust the water. Just make sure you don't rebuff next to a near-water campfire... it's not pleasant when a couple Banderlings and Drudges spawn on top of your mana-regaining butt. So... the buff sequence I described above will only work for Banderlings. If you want to fight Altered Drudges, make sure to Lightning Bane all of your armor as well (here's where the Hoary Mattekar Robe and the Virindi Mask rule - already Unparalleled protection against Lightning and Cold). If you are fighting against coral golems, the basic steps are the same, but the protections and Item spells are a bit different. Here's how I buff when I fight Coral Golems when wearing a regular Faran Robe with Hood (the robe, because it is very fast to buff):
- Perform the same steps as in the first sequence with the jewelry and the initial self-buffs.
- Buff the Faran Robe with Hood with Impenetrability VI and Bludgeon Bane VI. Same with the gauntlets. I also like to buff my underclothes - my undershirt and underpants, because it seems to decrease damage significantly (I also do this when fighting Tuskers). Buff the underclothes with the same spells - Impenetrability VI and Bludgeon Bane VI.
- Regain mana and cast the following spells on yourself: Armor Self VI, Bludgeoning Protect. Self VI, and Acid Protect. Self VI (see below on how certain monsters behave, i.e. what attacks they use). I also sometimes cast Fire and Cold Protect. Self VI on myself, just in case some Banderlings decide to play some sick jokes on me.
- Regain mana and the same self-buffs: Creature, War, Life, and Mana Conversion Masteries Self VI.
Also, if you don't have magic jewelry, I suggest casting Focus and Willpower Self VI spells on yourself, because they improve your magic schools drastically. So... your buffing is basically complete. What have you learned from this lesson? Banderlings use Cold and Fire attacks mostly (sometimes Bludgeoning). Coral Golems use Bludgeoning and Acid. Read on to see the how these monsters fight, so you can understand better why to buff this way.
On to Banderlings
